  1. Lower the heat to medium-low and let the mixture simmer for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the potatoes are tender and the flavors have melded.
  2. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Add more salt, pepper, or cumin if desired.

Optional: Substitute chunks of steak for ground beef for a heartier variation.
